To promote the strengthening of local gender equality policies, the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG) held another working meeting.
This time, the audience of the meeting consisted of top officials from municipalities in Eastern Georgia.
The working meeting was opened by NALAG’s Vice President and Mayor of Dusheti, Manana (Matsatso) Narimanidze, and the Association’s Executive Director, Nino Rukhadze.
The speakers emphasized the crucial role of the “European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life” and highlighted that NALAG, within its competence, will assist the signatory municipalities in implementing the Charter.
The meeting continued with an introduction to the new articles of the “European Charter for Equality of Women and Men in Local Life,” presented to the audience by the project analyst and UN Women representative, Marika Jobava.
To share best practices, representatives from Kutaisi, Zugdidi, and Gardabani municipalities also gave presentations, providing information about programs developed in their respective self-governing units.
Nino Goletiani presented the gender equality promotion program of Kutaisi Municipality, Gogi Revia discussed the monitoring of the gender equality action plan implementation in Zugdidi Municipality, and Tamar Khachidze introduced the institutional mechanisms implemented for gender equality in Gardabani Municipality to the audience.
The meeting, facilitated by Tamar Prangishvili, coordinator of the project “Women’s Leadership for Democracy in Georgia,” was conducted in an active discussion format.
The top officials of local governments discussed the challenges in their municipalities in this direction and deliberated on ways to overcome them with experts.
It is noteworthy that at the end of the meeting, several municipalities expressed their desire to sign the European Charter.
The working meeting, which was held in Telavi Municipality, was organized in collaboration between NALAG and UN Women, within the framework of the project “Women’s Leadership for Democracy in Georgia,” funded by the Government of Norway and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
Along with the top officials from Eastern Georgia municipalities, the meeting was also attended by NALAG’s Deputy Executive Director – Lasha Archvadze, and consultants of the project “Women’s Leadership for Democracy in Georgia” – Giorgi Isakadze and Maia Abashidze.
