Another municipality has joined the European Charter on ‘Equality of Women and Men in Local Life’.
Through the advocacy of the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG), the document was signed by Giorgi Tsiklauri, the Mayor of Tetritskaro Municipality.
The advocacy for the Charter is being implemented within the framework of the project ‘Women’s Leadership for Democracy in Georgia’, which NALAG is carrying out in cooperation with UN Women, with financial support from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Norwegian Government.
The Charter, created by the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) in May 2006, aims to improve gender equality in municipalities by implementing measures within their jurisdiction.
In Georgia, a total of 31 self-governing units have signed this Charter, although other municipalities have also expressed readiness to join the document.
