Keda Municipality has become the first self-governing unit from the Adjara region that, through the advocacy of the National Association of Local Authorities of Georgia (NALAG), officially signed the European Charter “for equality of women and men in local life” developed by the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) in 2006.
By signing the document, Keda Municipality commits to implementing measures that ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and men, including developing an action plan that encompasses specific steps, priorities, and necessary resources to create an equal environment.
To date, 32 municipalities in Georgia have signed the Charter, however, interest in the initiative is growing, and more self-governing units are expressing their desire to join the document.
The advocacy of the Charter is being implemented within the project “Women’s Leadership for Democracy in Georgia,” which NALAG is implementing with the support of UN Women, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and the Norwegian Government.
